The old city is a very famous tourist spot in Jakarta because is loaded with history in the Dutch colonial period in Jakarta (VOC). Located at the China town of Jakarta, central region has a large field with museums and cafes around it. All are located at Fatahilah square as you see on the photos above where people having enjoyment seeing those ancient buildings by walking around or hiring bikes. 
This tourist region has several museums. They are Bank Indonesia MuseumMaritime MuseumMuseum of History of Jakarta  (formerly museum Fatahilah),Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics, and Puppet Museum. In addition there are shops that used to sell spices. Red Store, but now it’s used  by a couple  for their pre wedding photo . In addition there is the port of Sunda Kelapa ,Kota Bridge and Tower Syahbandar. You can see what interesting places in The Old City on the map served in this area.




This area always attracts both local and foreign tourists.
At night there are some people dressed as ghosts ……

1.The Jakarta History Museum  (formerly Fatahilah Museum or Batavia museum)
This museum collects antiques 

This town hall also used as prison in the past

2. Puppet Museum (Museum Wayang)
We call it museum wayang. The word “wayang” comes from the word “bayang” which means “shadow” due to how this performance shown.  The mastermind plays these puppets and the audience see only the shadow of these puppets .

3. Fine Art and Ceramics Museum
This museum collects ceramics 
as well as paintings
4. Bank IndonesiaMuseum

Entering the gate then go to 2nd floor, you will find the locket to buy the ticket to enter this museum. The cost is 5.000 rupiahs.

 collects money that changes from one period of time to another 
and old bank notes from around the world as well

also provides visitors with audio and visual experience on the history of currencies and trade in Indonesia....
5. Mandiri Museum
This museum performs the bank activities in the past
Shows some book keeping  ledgerwhich is actually large in size
Collects variety typewriters and other bank and office equipments from time to time 

Automatic Teller Machines (ATM)
Safes and Safe deposit boxes
and there is a cafe inside with a touch of old fashioned
6. Sunda Kelapa Harbour

It is an old port located at Penjaringan , North Jakarta.
It was a main port of  Sunda Kingdom of Pajajaran.

Now, it’ only plays a minor role as a port. This is a relic of the old port where visitors can enjoy
the atmosphere of ancient times
When then sun goes down you can see how beautiful it is.......

7. Toko Merah
This historic building was built in the Dutch colonial period. Once inhabited by the governor general of VOC. This combination of European and Chinese architectural style building is located on Jalan Kali Besar no. 11, not far from Fatahilah square. At that time this area is the central business district.
8. Maritime museum
It tells about maritime history of Indonesia. 

9. VOC Shipyard
In the past it was used as trade office of VOC (Vereenigde Oost Indische Compagnie), the Dutch East India company.

Now it’s privately own and it is a restaurant 
10. Kota Intan Bridge
It was built during the Dutch colonial in Indonesia and it’s used to connect the West Kali Besar and the East Kali Besar.
11.Syahbandar Tower
It was built during the Dutch colonial and it was used to guide the traffic and ships at Sunda Kelapa harbour. Yes, it’s located near Sunda Kelapa harbour
12.Luar Batang Old Mosque
The mosque is located near Sunda Kelapa harbour.

People here believe that the mosque is hallow.

Feeling tired after walking around the square and see the museum?
Don’t worry there are some restaurants and cafes in this square to have some food and relax.
Or if you want to try some street food. There are some people selling typical food Jakarta.
But there is one cafe that is unique....
Batavia Cafe
The café room is designed such that you feel as if you were in ancient time…
even in its restroom....

This cafe has 2 floors. The ground floor is allowed for smoking and the second floor is non smoking room...
On the second floor you can choose the table next to the window and you can enjoy the view from the window...


yes, the cafe is in front of Fatahilah museum. Both are in Fatahilah square. The cafe serves Indonsian food, Western food, and Chinese food.
